If you plan to visit during the Springtime, and as you will be near the water's edge, it might be best to plan in light layers. Be sure to pack your classic, favorite trench for daytime strolling, an umbrella, and some scarves for keeping cozy and stylish, as temperatures and rainfall may occur at any time, and weather is said to be unpredictable [though rest assured, even on the most grey of days, the city is incredibly lovely].

Lovely! I'm going to Montreal in a month or two, would love to see a full feature on that city!!
what a shame this post wasn't around a year ago - we went to bruges (twice in the past two years while living in Belgium) and we were hugely disappointed both times... tourists, extremely expensive (and not very good) restaurants, and gift shops overwhelmed us to the point where the beauty and charm of the city was lost. the second time we went, we tried to wander further away from the touristy square in search of some authentic Belgian galleries and cafes and after a few hours of wandering (it was a cold November day) gave up and went home. the architecture and canals are truly lovely, though. I can't deny that.
I absolutely adore Bruges! I traveled here three years ago while on vacation to Paris. My friends and I decided on a day trip and it was so easy to get to by train. Everything about the town was majestic and lovely. In fact just this past weekend my friend and we were thinking back to Paris and we were both saying we want to go back to Bruges for an extended stay. There was an incredible lingerie shop that I loved but can't remember the name of. And a spa that I would have loved to check out. Bruges is definitely on my list of places to travel to again. Thank you for a wonderful guide.
As regular Bruges-visitor I know most of these places but it is very helpful for people who want to visit this nice city for the first time.
I'm happy there is a picture of my favourite accomodation, the exclusive B&B Bonifacius (seen on the 3rd picture, along the canal). This place should absolutely be in the list with places to stay!
Hotel Casselbergh was an outstanding hotel!!! Highly recommend it! Right on the canal....lovely breakfast,
